Uncle Rusty, P-Arrow, and a good Monday

Uncle Rusty
Thank you for all of the prayers for my Uncle Rusty. The Dr’s believe that the treatments have been going well. This is his last week of treatments. I believe that we will find out tomorrow just how effective the chemo and radiation were on the cancer. I know he is relieved to almost have them in the rearview mirror. Just please continue to pray for him and the family while we start on the road to recovery.

P-Arrow Trip
This weekend, a group of about 10 of us (including me and dad) drove down to Livingston, AL to fish at P-Arrow Plantation. We drove down Friday evening and stopped in Tuscaloser for some Dreamland; checked into the hotel; and tried to go to sleep at a reasonable hour since we were meeting guide at 515 the next morning. Dad dozed off around 9 and I stayed up and watched TV for another half hour or so. It took me a while to finally doze off. I woke up and just laid there for a minute thinking that it was about time to get up anyways and that I should start the coffee. I sat up and looked at the clock…12 flippin 30. This night was going to take forever. I finally fell back asleep, but only in 30-45 min increments. I couldn’t wait to wet a hook.
We woke up around 4 and got all our stuff together. We went on down to the lobby, checked out, and then rigged all our rods and reels in the parking lot so we could have a little bit of light. We got in the Yukon and started the convoy to Hardees before meeting our guide, Wes, at the local gas station. Everyone was on the water by 530. Barely any light out. The fog was rolling across the water and the fish were rolling and breaking the water’s surface. Each time you hear it, you can help but say, “Don’t worry, I’m coming.” It was my 3rd cast with a top water frog when the first fish was caught for the day. The fish was about 3.3 lbs. It was going to be a fun day!
During the first half of the day, my dad and I pulled in about 30 bass. The majority of them weighed over 3lbs. It wasn’t too terribly hot out there like it has been on past trips, but it was still hot. We decided to get off the water for lunch around noon. For some reason we went to Sonic…I say for some reason b/c Sonic doesn’t have indoor seating. It would have been nice to go to Hardees again and sit in the A/C for a little bit. I will say thought that the Sonic Burger hit the spot.
While we were at lunch, Wes moved our boats to another lake. This lake started out a little slow, then picked up, and continued that cycle until 600 when we called it a day. The fish in this lake weren’t as consistently big as the first lake. I did hook a 5 pounder and John, Heather’s brother, reeled in an 8.5 pounder (biggest of the day). Our boat caught around 68 fish on Saturday. It was an awesome day, and I hope that Dad and I can keep going every spring.

Here are some pics from the day:

Fitness and Training
So, my weight has been floating around 256-262 for the past couple of weeks. I’ll do good training, then I will eat like crap or I’ll eat healthy but not do any training. Today is my new start day (I’ve had way too many of these). I tipped the scale at 259.5 this morning. I figure I’ll weigh in on Monday mornings so that I can stay motivated on the weekends. First day of the week has started off great…I did my ½ Masters Swim this morning

Warmup: 300 nonstop
2x100
Drills: 2 ea. Fingertip, Single Arm, Overrotate, Catch-Up 200
Main Set: Pulls 200 @ 70%
200 @ 80%
Cool Down 100

Total 1200m

Then at lunch I went to the gym and hammered out 30 mins on the elliptical
Dist: 3.05 miles
Time: 30 mins
Calories Burned: 473

I’m going to try and hit the elliptical every day at lunch. I figure it can’t hurt to do a little extra cardio. I need all the help I can get to shed some more pounds so I can be lighter (b/c lighter = faster) on the runs. The heart of my race season is sneaking up. I only have 8 weeks until my first “A” race (top priority), Buster Britton. I can’t wait for the GJCC race on Memorial Day. I know I will perform better than I did at Magic City.

Eric’s Quote of the Day: “I’m workin’ on it” ~ my 3 year old nephew, Jackson, when MH asked him if he was making “stinky pants”
